It started as a work-study

Hey there, I’m Nolan Xiong, and I want to share with you the unexpected journey that led me into the world of creative media. It all began with a simple work-study application at my old college. I was hoping for a quiet job at the library or front desk, but life had other plans for me. Instead, I found myself in the bustling media department, completely clueless about cameras and equipment.

In that small, bustling space, I discovered something magical. I started wearing many hats, diving headfirst into photography and videography. And you know what? I found a hidden talent within myself, a passion for creating that I never knew existed.

My artistic journey is deeply rooted in my upbringing as a child of refugee parents. Their sacrifices and struggles to give me a better life have always fueled my ambition to catch up with my American peers. But it’s more than just catching up—it’s about honoring their journey and finding my voice in the process.

Inspired by the works of visionaries like Gordon Parks and the storytelling prowess of authors like Kao Kalia, I’ve learned to navigate between different worlds, seeking to create art that speaks to the hearts of diverse audiences. And when I need to recharge my creative spirit, you’ll find me escaping into the worlds of anime and Hip Hop, where I find solace and inspiration.

My ultimate goal as an artist is simple yet profound: to create work that touches hearts, sparks conversations, and leaves a lasting impact on society.

Now, let’s talk about my creative process. It always starts with my trusty yellow journal, a symbol of my commitment to this journey. As I pour my thoughts onto its pages, I feel a sense of purpose and clarity wash over me. And once I’m in the zone, there’s no stopping me—I lose track of time as I pour my heart and soul into every project.

Thank you for joining me on this journey into my creative world. I’m excited to continue growing, learning, and sharing my art with the world.
